What's in the app

Three tabs. Everything a member needs.

One app for every Openside club. Add your club by its web address, sign in on its own sign-in page, and you're in.

Match

The match-day recorder, for whoever's on the touchline with the phone.

  • The score and clock, with big buttons you can hit in the rain
  • Tries, conversions, penalties and drop goals, for both teams
  • Subs, cards, sin bins and missed kicks
  • Undo, fix or remove anything on the timeline

For members your club lets record matches.

Calendar

What's on, day by day: fixtures, tournaments and training, kept on the phone so it opens without signal.

  • Maps and directions to every ground
  • Team sheets and scorers once they're out
  • Add anything to your phone's calendar
  • A month view to jump to any day

For clubs whose site has the calendar.

Me

Your profile, your devices and your clubs.

  • Your photo, name, nickname and bio, in each of your club's languages
  • Choose whether you're shown on the club's site
  • See where you're signed in, and sign a device out
  • In more than one club? Switch in a tap

For every member.

Match day, start to finish

Kick-off to final whistle, no signal needed.

Rugby grounds have a habit of being where phones don't reach. The recorder was built for exactly that.

  1. Before you leave

The app keeps your fixtures from a week ago to four weeks ahead, and your squad, on the phone. Pick the team at home, or on the bus.

  2. On the touchline

Tap Try, Penalty or Card as it happens. The score and the clock keep up, even with the screen locked.

  3. Got one wrong?

Undo, put it back, or fix any line on the timeline: the right scorer, the right minute.

  4. After the whistle

Whenever there's next a signal, it all goes to your club's site: the score, the scorers, the cards. Nothing to type up again.

Built for the touchline

Airplane mode all afternoon. Nothing lost.

Every tap is saved on the phone before anything else happens. When the signal comes back, the events go to your club's site in order, and only the ones the site confirms are marked as sent. Anything it turns down stays on the phone with the reason, ready to send again.

  • The match clock runs on the phone's own clock, so it keeps time with the screen locked
  • One recorder per match, so two phones can't count the same try twice; someone else can take over
  • Events stay on the phone after they're sent, as a backup

Sent in the order they happened, as soon as there's signal.

Calendar

What's on this week, even in the changing room.

Fixtures, tournaments and training, day by day, straight from your club's site. It's kept on the phone, so it opens with no signal, and it catches up when you pull down.

  • Directions to the ground in your maps app
  • The team sheet and scorers, once the club publishes them
  • Add to Calendar with your phone's own sheet: the app never reads your calendar
  • Sessions that are called off say so

Privacy

Your club's app. Not an ad network's.

The app talks to your club's own site and nothing else. Your club looks after your details, and you can delete your account from the app.

  • No ads, analytics or tracking

There are no advertising, analytics or tracking kits in the app, so it never asks to track you across other apps.

  • Sign in on your club's own page

You sign in on your club's site, in your phone's secure sign-in sheet. The app never sees your password, and its keys are locked in the phone's Keychain or Keystore.

  • Your details stay with your club

Your profile and the matches you record go to your club's site, which your club controls. Openside runs it for them, and never sells or shares it.

  • Leave whenever you like

Me › Delete my account removes your account from your club's site. Signing out takes the club's keys off the phone.

Languages

In English, Japanese and Traditional Chinese.

The app follows your phone's language. Your profile can be written in each of your club's languages, so every member reads it in theirs.

iPhone and Android

Native on both. Not a website in a wrapper.

Two apps, each built for its own phones, with the same screens and the same rules, so a match recorded on one reads exactly the same on the other.

iPhone

Built in SwiftUI, in Apple's own look. Fixtures refresh in the background, and anything waiting goes the moment the phone's back online.

FAQ

Questions

Who is the Openside app for?

Members of rugby clubs whose website runs on Openside. You'll need an account on your club's site: ask your club if you're not sure. The app is for adults (18 and over).

Does it cost anything?

No. The app is free on the App Store and Google Play, with no in-app purchases and no ads. Clubs pay for Openside; members don't.

Can I really record a match with no signal?

Yes. Everything you tap is saved on the phone first, and the app sends it to your club's site when it's next online, even if you've closed the app in between. Just don't delete the app before it's sent.

Who can record matches?

Whoever your club gives permission to. If you can't see the Match tab, ask your club's admin.

What if two of us record the same match?

Only one phone records each match. Anyone else sees the board read-only, with the recorder's name, and can take over if they need to.

I'm in more than one club.

Add each one by its web address. You sign in to each separately, and switch between them in Me.

My club isn't on Openside. Can it be?

Yes. Openside gives rugby clubs their own website, with fixtures, results, news and the match-day recorder built in. See what Openside does for clubs.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, go to Me › Delete my account. Your club's site removes your account; match events you recorded stay in the club's records, as part of the match. You can also ask your club directly.

Your club, on every phone on the touchline.

Openside gives your club its website, and your members this app.
